Full Description

A trial trenching evaluation was carried out at this site in February 2011 by MAS in advance of a proposed commercial development. In total, 14 trenches were excavated. In addition, 5 clearance cairns were identified in the development area which were all sectioned and recorded. The cairns appear to be of late prehistoric date and are likely to have been the edge of an area of cultivation associated with the nearby hut circle (NO99NW0023). A number of drystone dykes and remnants of dykes were observed and plotted, as were two water channels. These features date to the 19th and 20th Centuries.
