Full Description

A walkover survey was carried out by Alder Archaeology in May 2021 on an area of hillside rough pasture, also known as Hawkhill Wood, in advance of proposed afforestation. The remains of a field-system, comprising two grassed-over banks (part of NO89SW0017), along with a drystone dyke (NO89SW0136), were recorded. No other features of archaeological interest were recorded. The far south and west of the proposed planting scheme was reported to be covered by dense expanses of gorse bushes, for the most part impenetrable and preventing close examination of the ground. This did include part of the field system area, albeit only the southern fringe.
