Full Description

Trial trenching evaluation carried out by CFA in 2013 along the proposed Aberdeen Western Peripheral Route recorded five possible pits at this location. Two produced fragments of glass (most likely to have been the result of manuring) and three produced small quantities of charcoal. Further excavation by CFA in May 2014 uncovered 32 irregular, oval and circular pits of varying size all identified as stone extraction holes for the purposes of agricultural land improvement. Cultivation furrows from earlier phases of agriculture were also recorded.
