Full Description
Site of a turning mill depicted on the OS 1st edition map, which shows two s stone built and a wooden building, an enclosure and a sluice and lade leading to the smaller building. By the time of the 2nd edition map, the smaller building had been removed, that remaining then named Waterfall Cottage. Documentary research carried out by J Gilliatt records that the turning mill was in operation by 1831, then run by Andrew Paterson, a wood turner employing two men. In 1863 it was described as a small mill driven by water power, used principally for bobbins and reels. It appears to have gone out of use a as turning mill soon after 1864., when Andrew Paterson's son became gamekeeper and the property was advertised to let.
