Full Description
A short cist, orientated east-west, was found by the farm labourer James Smith in October, 1863 while he was excavating a sandy hillock in the corner of a plantation southwest of Bogheadley farmhouse. The cist contained a crouched burial, a beaker (which broke apart when it was handled), and the remains of a crescentic jet necklace. At the time it was noted the beaker was 'ornamented with crossing lines', while the necklace consisted of circa 60 large beads that were of 'elongated shape' and nine ornamented pieces of the same material which had been used to 'elaborate the pattern'. The beaker is probably a late and degenerate form of beaker.
