Full Description

Trial trench dug as part of an archaeological evaluation undertaken in 1993 in advance of the realignment of an unclassified road connecting Auchenblae Road and Cemetery Road, west of the Spurryhillock Junction on the A90 Aberdeen-Stonehaven Trunk Road (see NO88NE0051 for the other five trenches of this evaluation, to the north). This trench 5 was close to the site of a cropmark enclosure on Beattie’s Hill (NO88NE0043). Excavation recorded five pits of differing size, although their date and function are unknown. A small number of charcoal flecks and fragments of burnt bone were recovered from one pit.
