Full Description
Remains of a long cist found and badly damaged by JCB while trench cutting. A substantial part of skeleton had been lifted before archaeological examination of the cist was possible. After cleaning, a few basal slabs could be seen, also a few small slabs of conglomerate lying on one side of trench. All of the body that remained in situ was part of the spinal column and a scapula. The body had been placed in the cist with head at the west end, facing east. The body was probably that of a male age 25-35 years of age. Radiocarbon dating would suggest a 17th century date. The site was visited in 2023 as part of the SCAPE Coastal Zone Assessment Survey: nothing was visible on the surface.

dating of skeleton OxA sample no V-22172-17 gives date 405+/-27 and cal date probably AD 17th century.
