Full Description
Site of a short cist which contained a beaker. The capstones of the elongated, quadrilateral cist were in three layers, the uppermost, two large flat stones, being 10 cm below the surface of the ground. One of these stones 'Had the appearance of being an erratic boulder, and bore on its under surface rude sculpturing'. It seems likely that these markings had been exposed to atmospheric weathering for a considerable period of time before the stone was utilised as a top covering for the cist. About 20 flat stones, embedded in sand, formed the second layer. The third was of two flat stones in contact with the mouth of the cist. Small pebbles covered the floor of the cist. It contained the skeleton of male lying on its left side, head at east end facing south, and of height between 5'7 to 5'10. Also a beaker (SN Step 6 N4) and a roughly chipped quartzite beach pebble. C14 date of BP3770+/-31.
