Full Description

Site of two stone cists discovered in a hillock of sand and shingle in 1854, by a workman digging for gravel. One contained the skeletons of a male and female plus two urns, the other contained a skeleton only. A quantity of flints had been deposited with the bodies. The skeletons were removed to the churchyard at Kinneff. From the sketch and description of the OS surveyor it would appear that at least one of the urns was a beaker. The find was reported in the Montrose Review of 28 April 1854, which noted that several stone coffins had been discovered at different times in the same area, in the immediate vicinity ‘of the old public road’
