Full Description
Foundations of a building, of sandstone construction, revealed by trenching across Castle Street on 13 March 2015. Two lines of wall and a floor level were visible. The visible stone was partly worked, and some faced stone was visible in the spoil heap which also contained a large number of cobbles. It is likely that these are the remains of the buildings that lined the east side of Castle Street and which were demolished in the 1960s. They possibly date from as early as the Medieval period. Other than a piece of white china pottery no finds were observed.
