Full Description

A watching brief carried out by CFA Archaeology in May and August 2017 during topsoil stripping for quarrying recorded a total of 18 pits in the Phase 9/2 area and 23 pits, a linear ditch and traces of furrows in the Phase 10/1 area to the north. Most contained some charcoal, but the only find recovered from the Phase 9 pits was a tiny portion of an iron strap. Many of the pits in the Phase 10 area showed traces of burning in the fills, and many may have been small fire pits.

Radiocarbon dating indicates a Medieval date for the Phase 9 area pits.
