Full Description
Several long cists were found (19th century) while enlarging the roads on a site commonly known as Gallowhill Stone, a few hundred yards from Kincardine Castle. The New Statistical Account (1845) suggested that they were the burials of people executed on Gallow Hill. It is doubtful if long cists would have been used in the burial of executed criminals and it is more likely that these cists are of post-Roman date.
