Short cist found by roadmen cutting into a small hillock, a few years before 1863. It contained 'unctuous earth and bones'. The OS Name Book (1863) noted that part of the cist could be seen built into the wall at the side of the road. A later (unrecorded) source stated that there was no trace of the cist stones in the wall at the road-side.
