Full Description
Possible site of camp. The NSA (circa 1845) records 'the remains of an extensive encampment', but evidently not of Roman construction. It is of an oblong form. The ramparts are composed of large stones piled upon one another, and at the end bordering on the bank of the Esk are the foundations of what appears to have been a round tower. These remains lay about 1 mile northwest of the portion of Stracathro parish on the north side of the North Esk. (circa 1 mile northwest of area NO 627 661. The area is that alleged to hold the supposed Roman camp of 'Tina' (see NO66NW0003, NO66NW0012) but this may refer to the fortlet and camp at Stracathro (NO66NW0013). This feature was not located when the area was visited by the OS in 1971.
