Full Description

Site of cists and possible findspot of a bronze axe. Four short cists were found about 1834 circa 350 m east northeast of Stracathro church. The Ordnance Name Book states that 'They contained the usual remains', which, presumably, included a bronze flat-axe with slight traces of flanges, mentioned to the OS by Mr. Ferguson in 1954. There is no information at Montrose Museum to connect the axe with the cists. Exact location of cists is unknown but thought to be close to marked position. Location of axe unknown.
