Full Description

Site of chapel and burial ground. Bones were occasionally turned up by the plough in the early 19th century and the site was still traceable in 1899, being blacker and richer than the rest of the field, and its crop heavier and more luxuriant, especially in a dry summer. No trace of the chapel or burial ground now and the farmer has noticed nothing unusual during ploughing. A tombstone bearing the arms of the Earl of Southesk and the dates 1668 and 1704 is built into the cottage. Some of the tombstones from the burial ground are now in Edzell old churchyard (NO56NE0007).
