Full Description
A trial trenching evaluation was undertaken by CFA in 2005 in advance of proposed gravel quarry extension. About 5 per cent of the area (8875 sq m) was excavated (see also NO64NW0050). Rig and furrow was present across the site and had truncated earlier features. Several excavated features corresponded to those in the cropmark record. Pits, a possible ring-ditch, various features including a northeast-southwest linear feature and a possible medieval stone oven were discovered. The formerly scheduled area (descheduled 2013) for was excluded from the trial trenching at this stage but evaluation was carried out in 2014 – see NO65SW0031.
