Full Description
Site of a sawmill and bobbin mill, recorded by J Gilliatt from documentary research. There appears to have been a sawmill on Dishlandtown Street from about 1850, In the 1880s J KIdd was using the premises as a bobbin mill, which was damaged in a fire in 1901. The premises were described as 'at the back of a courtyard opening off Dishlandtown Street' and consisted of a sawmill and bobbin factory on the ground floor 'fitted with all the modern machinery necessary for the carrying on of a fairly extensive business', with a joiner's workshop and wood store above. There was also an engine and boiler house at one end of the building, above which was a drying store for bobbin wood. Its exact location is not clear.
