Full Description
A 7 percent evaluation was carried out by AOC at this site in May 2009 prior to proposed housing development. In total 13 trenches were excavated during the course of the evaluation. The majority of the trenches contained no archaeological features and only a few artefacts were recovered from the topsoil. However the western end of Trench 6 contained a number of prehistoric features which on the basis of form and artefacts can be provisionally interpreted as the remains of a ring ditch roundhouse and ancillary pit features. In August 2010 an excavation was carried out which uncovered two distinct coherent structures, a 14 m diameter ringditch roundhouse and a 7 m diameter postring roundhouse along with a small number of associated features. Finds included small assemblages of pottery, lithics and coarse stone.
