Full Description

Metal detector survey and trial trenching was carried out in December 2006 on a proposed development site which lies adjacent to the traditional site of the 7th century Battle of Nechtansmere (NO54NW0012). The earliest dateable item recovered during the metal detecting survey was a George III silver coin of mint date 1816. The majority of items recovered are thought to date from the late 19th or early 20th centuries. No archaeological features were present in any of the three trenches excavated.
