Full Description

Site of a vitriol works depicted on the OS 1st edition OS map. By the time of the 2nd edition OS map the building had been considerably extended. Further expansion took place into the 20th century, as shown on the 3rd edition map. The site was later occupied by the Greencore Maltings Plant which started operations in 1972 and closed in 2004. An archaeological watching brief was carried out in 2007 on groundworks for a new residential development on the site. Three brick features were noted in the north-western corner of the development arera, but no associated features or deposits were noted and their function was unclear. No other significant archaeological features or artefacts were recorded.
