Full Description

Site of a gallows. Gallows Knowe, to the south of the village is probably the place of execution for the nearby castle. Desk based assessment in 2021 ahead of proposed woodland creation (NO37SW0151) noted that the OS Name Book (1857-61) records a slight eminence south of the footbridge at the 'Millton'. It had been a knoll at one time but was destroyed in the course of cultivation. Nothing was noted during subsequent walkover survey.
