Full Description

A monitored topsoil strip was carried out by CFA Archaeology in March 2019 at Powmyre Quarry (Phase 5, Stage 3). This identified 16 isolated pits. Three contained fire-cracked stones and were interpreted as fire-pits. One pit contained quantities of charcoal. Lithics were recovered from two pits, one of which also contained sherds of prehistoric pottery. Environmental sampling recovered charcoal from three samples and hazelnut shells from one. The evidence indicates a low density of prehistoric activity. See NO35SE0218 for Phase 5, Stage 1 and NO35SE0219 for Stage 5C.
