Full Description

Probable site of a souterrain (Wainwright's Auchterhouse II), noted by Scott in 1795 as having been 'completely dug up and full of rich mould', and containing 'ashes of wood, some bones, hand millstones, about 14 inches (35.5 cm) diameter, and a brass ring without description'. When visited in the late 20th century by Wainwright and the OS no visible structural remains were discovered. There were reports of excessively stony ground, a tell-tale depression and the location is ideal for a souterrain.
