Full Description

Site of a souterrain. According to the NSA, a souterrain was discovered in the early part of the 19th century, to the south of Auchtertyre, at the southeast angle of the crossroads north of Kinpurnie Castle. The NSA records that it was investigated at some point and 'ashes etc' were discovered. Waiwright discovered that there were local memories of the souterrain being rediscovered circa 1905-6 when the road was widened. He speculated that an undamaged section may lie in the corner of the field next to the road. No surface traces were visible when visited by the OS in 1970.
