Full Description

Site of a jute mill depicted on the OS 1st edition map which shows one long rectangular building fed by a lade through its east end, with smaller buildings to north and south. By the time of the 2nd edition map the building to the north had been removed and that to the south enlarged to, or replaced by, another rectangular building. Documentary research by J Gilliatt records that this was originally a flax spinning mill, later a jute mill and by 1871 had become a bobbin mill. When advertised for sale in 1882 it was described as 'Craigielinn Turning Bobbin Mill', the sale including the mill, house, stable and byre. It was taken over by another wood turner bu by 1891 was occupied by a wheelwright, and apparently no longer in use as a bobbin mill.
