Full Description

Site of buildings and watching brief prior to redevelopment. A watching brief was carried out by MAS during April-May 2014 during soil stripping of this area for new council offices. The area was fully developed in the 18th-19th century and the OS 1st edition shows all street frontages of the site built up with an area of garden ground behind the Erroll Street buildings to the east of the pub (outwith the development site). By the time of the 2nd edition most of the garden ground had been built up. With the exception of the pub, all these properties were demolished circa 1970s and flats erected over the whole footprint of the site. The flats were demolished circa 2007. No archaeological features or finds were evident during the watching brief.
