Full Description
A place called Grange is depicted at this site on the 1st edition OS map of 1867 to the west of Peterhead. It shows several buildings as well as extensive gardens and orchards. By the 1888 edition parts of the gardens and orchards have become small fields, and by the 1928 edition most of the internal walls have disappeared. A 'Grange of Rawhill' is mentioned in the Register of the Great Seal as being in possession of Deer Abbey, which was a Cistercian order. The area now has houses and a school built over it. To the west at NK1151 4621 is Hillhead of Grange which may be associated with it. The name is maintained in Peterhead with areas called Grange Gardens to the east of the original site, and Middle Grange to the west.
