Full Description

A desk-based assessment and walkover survey were carried out by AOC Archaeology in 2018 ahead of proposed electricity substation development. No archaeological features were identified within the development area. Three phases of watching briefs were carried out by AOC Archaeology between February and September2021 during groundworks for a new substation. No significant archaeological features were identified. Only a small number of artefacts were recovered from the subsoil, these including a mix of post-medieval glass and ceramics. A small assemblage of struck flint artefacts and a possible cobble hammerstone were recovered from a possible early soil horizon. The presence of a possible boundary ditch along with a drainage ditch, modern plough marks, and field drains indicates past agricultural activity in the area.
