Full Description

Site of a manor of which there is now no trace. In 1721 it was observed by Alexander Hepburn that the manor of Crimond was then the 'dwelling house' of Alexander Irvine of Crimond. Eleven years later Keith confirmed this, adding that it had been a possession of the Earl of Erroll who had sold this estate to his chamberlain, Alexander Cumming. It was owned by the Douglas family during the 14th and first half of the 15th centuries, and later passed to the Hays. In 1705, the Earl of Erroll was served heir in 'the lands and Barony of Crimond with castle tower, fort, and Manor Place'. The exact site of this castle/manor-house is uncertain, but It would appear to have been ruinous by 1875.
