Full Description

Site of short cist which contained a fine decorated beaker, found in May,1934 by Mr Patrick Catto. There was some evidence that it had previously been disturbed, and according to local information, a cist was opened upon the mound in circa 1880 and two urns, probably containing 'ashes' were found. These were re-interred but it is believed they were chipped, whereas the beaker is not. The latter was donated to the museum at Marischal College. The impressed patterns of the beaker are filled with a white powder-like material which after chemical analysis proved to consist of a large proportion of phosphate, a small amount of calcium, and traces of carbonate. The knoll is now reduced by ploughing.
