Full Description

Site of a farmstead which is shown only on the 1st edition OS map as a group of four buildings. Two of these, long rectangular buildings, form an unconnected L-shape with attached enclosure on the east and a smaller rectangular building within the court. The fourth building lies to the south-east and is connected by a possible lade to a pond with a sluice which lies to the west and upslope of it, possibly this represented a mill. Quern stone found at circa NJ 958 520 by farmer in 2004. The stone is an upper quern-stone and the lack of a socket for a handle indicates that it came from a horizontal water-mill. It was found below the surface in a watery zone of dark organic material.
