Full Description

Site of short cist and cairn excavated by Milne in 1854. It was turf-covered with a cavity on top, measuring 10.97m in diameter and 1.83m high, the cavity on top 1.22m in diameter and 45.7 cm deep. Below the cavity on top and cut into the boulder clay on which the cairn rested were two oblong cavities, lying east-west. They were filled with pebbles mixed with ash-like earth in which minute fragments of calcined bone could be detected. They were not stone-lined. On the west side of the cairn was a small cist formed by six stones enclosing an area. It contained 17 flint nodules, a flint axe and scraper, a pigmy cup and a broken urn.
