Full Description

A single trench (12) was excavated in this area in October 2011 by MAS as part of the Book of Deer Project. A well built stone wall was discovered at the east end of the trench, with a deep deposit of infilled building rubble to the west. The excavated wall appears to be the northwest corner of a building abutting the former north wall of the north building of the Hotel depicted in this area on the 1st edition OS map. The wall is not shown on the 1st edition OS map and therefore is of late 19th or early 20th Century date.
