Full Description

Site of alleged abbey, supposedly the original Abbey of Deer. When the road was being built, several stones, probably foundation stones, were unearthed. Nearby is the Chapel Well, while the Chapel Hillock and a number of low mounds called the 'Graves' adjoin it. There are no remains, records or tradition of a chapel in the locality. No trace of a chapel or the 'graves' adjoining Chapel Hillock. Chapel well is a sluggish natural spring. OS site visit in 1968 found no evidence to suggest a chapel or abbey.
