Full Description

Site of mansion house built by General James King, Lord Eythin, when he purchased the estate of Dudwick in 1636. It was a fine example of the Scottish Domestic Architecture of the period. A drawing taken in 1851 is reproduced in the 1887 edition of 'Castles of Aberdeenshire'. The mansion stood in the area north of the present farmhouse and steadings. On the death of General Robert Fullerton in 1786 it became the farmhouse for Mains of Dudwick till 1865 when it was pulled down and all trace obliterated, although according to ONB a small portion of the north and west walls remained in 1868. The 2-storey north wing of the present farmhouse was built from the materials. Two stone balls from the old building decorate the pillars that form the gateway to the present garden. No trace.
