Full Description
Site of alleged burial chamber. The OS Name Book records that until 1861 this was a cromlech consisting of a block of blue granite supported by a large block of granite at each corner, traditionally said to have marked the burial of a Pictish king. When blasted by navvies it was found to contain only 'black unctuous earth surrounded by clay'. OS site visit 1964 noted that six large boulders of blue granite lay in area but these have been blasted recently. It seems probable that there was never anything more than glacial erratic here.
