Evaluation carried out by MAS in 2012 in advance of construction of a new school recorded the remains of rig and furrow, and a few finds dating from the prehistoric and medieval periods.

Evaluation carried out by MAS in 2012 in advance of construction of a new school recorded the remains of rig and furrow, and a few finds dating from the prehistoric and medieval periods. A total of 19 trenches were excavated, 18 over the west and central parts of the site, the other to the south of the old road from Fechil Farm (NJ92NE0076). A total of four flints and 1 sherd of undiagnostic prehistoric pottery were recovered but no associated features were identified. Four abraded sherds of medieval pottery were recovered which could not be closely dated but are of the range 13th - 15th century. The traces of rig and furrow may be of any date from the medieval period to the 18th century. Rig is shown in the area on Roy's map of 1747-55. Evaluation trenches were not possible in the eastern wooded part of the site but observation of test pits undertaken for the development were observed. These confirmed that much of the area had been stripped at the time of the A90 widening. No archaeological features or finds were observed.
