Full Description

A trial trenching evaluation was carried out by Cameron Archaeology in January-February 2013 ahead of proposed development. A total of 82 trenches were excavated across the site recording mainly evidence of recent land-use, both agriculture and quarrying. Six features of potential archaeological interest were identified. Further investigation showed one to be a palaeochannel, and another was a group of ard marks (circa NJ 93550 12800). Two postholes (NJ 93990 12512) were probably of modern date. Three pits containing pottery in Trench 48 (NJ 93958 126270) may have related to the farmstead (NJ91SW0341). The evaluation was unable to locate the mill lade (NJ91SW0181)
