Full Description

Field survey and evaluation carried out ahead of proposed quarrying. An archaeological evaluation was conducted on an area of ground, circa 10ha, which lies between North and South Allans and was the subject of an application for planning permission to extract sands and gravels. The evaluation included a desk-based assessment, field survey and machine trenching of over 1000m2. No archaeological features or structures of note were identified in the area to be affected. Within the evaluated area the survey recorded three relict field dykes depicted on historic OS maps. The field survey also recorded a linear spread of loose stone from field clearance probably derived from stone dykes.
