Full Description
A large oval pit recorded during trial trenching by Headland Archaeology in 2013 ahead of the Aberdeen Western Peripheral Route (NJ91NW0155). It had shallow sides and a flat base, measuring 1.99 m by 0.75 m by 0.2 m. A single quartz flake of possible prehistoric date was recovered from the silty clay lining the cut. Further excavation was carried out by Headland Archaeology in 2014. Of the nine features investigated two were possibly pits, but undated, the remaining features were determined to be stone holes or tree throws. The pit found in the previous trenching was re-examined and also thought to be a tree throw.
