Full Description
A trial trenching evaluation was carried out by Cameron Archaeology in August 2013 ahead of proposed development on a former caravan park. Eight trenches were excavated in the eastern part of the development site (the west occupied by a car park) and showed that topsoil had previously been stripped and the whole site prepared for development by laying down layers of sand and stones before recovering with topsoil. No archaeological features or artefacts were recorded. A watching brief (June 2014) during the removal of a narrow consumption dyke revealed the structure of the dyke but no earlier features or finds. A saddle quern was removed from the base of a static caravan where it was being used as a step.
