Full Description

On the 18 November 1893, lugger WAR SPRITE, fishing out of Inverness under Captain A. Smith, was stranded and lost at Buckielaw, 3.25 miles (5.23 km) West of Findhorn, a distance placing the location at circa NH98906444. A large piece of hull recorded in June 2022 as part of the SCAPE Community Coastal Zone Assessment Survey (CCZAS) further west at NH 94967 61537 has been tentatively identified as the War Sprite (probably a Zulu fishing boat. The section is circa 15 m long, carvel built with iron fittings and small copper nails. Wreck further recorded and reported to SCAPE in 2023. Comparison with photographs take in 2022 shows that the hull of the boat has turned by circa 180 degrees.
