Full Description
A watching brief was carried out by Cameron Archaeology in September 2013 during excavation of trial pits to identify underlying geology in preparation for new harbour development in Nigg Bay. A total of 15 trial pits were dug. Although the bay is the location of a raised beach midden (NJ90SE0008) and St Fittick's Well (NJ90SE0014) , heavy erosion in the bay has removed traces of these sites. Material had also been dumped in the bay in the 1980s to provide protection for an SSSI cliff face and these deposits were identified in the test pits. No archaeological features or artefacts were recorded in the trial pits.
