Full Description

Site of Parkroad Works and other buildings depicted on the OS 2nd edition and later maps. A trial trenching evaluation was carried out by Headland Archaeology in September - October 2013 ahead of proposed redevelopment. Three trenches were excavated, The eastern part of the site had been disturbed by construction and demolition of the earlier buildings. One trench recorded garden soil, developed when the site was in use for allotments during the first half of the 19th century. One shallow cut may be linked to this horticultural activity. The present residential building on the site has incorporated some of the original including central gable with datestone (1886), and the style of fenestration.
