Full Description

A trial trenching evaluation and watching brief were carried out by Cameron Archaeology in January-February 2014 ahead of proposed residential development. The site was open ground on the OS 1st edition map, but the 2nd edition map shows buildings occupying the southern part of the development area. Four trenches were excavated in the south part of the site; they showed that the site had been waterlogged prior to its development in the 19th century. A watching brief on the north part of the site noted that the area was disturbed by building and vegetation. No archaeological features or artefacts were recorded in the evaluation or monitoring.
