Full Description

A trial trenching evaluation was carried out by MAS in August 2007 on the line of the Aberdeenshire Canal (NJ81SE0535). Two cross-sections of the canal bed, lined with grey clay, were recorded close to the back retaining wall of the properties. It appeared to be circa 6m wide and circa 0.5m deep (probably truncated slightly when the cottage was built. The tow path would have been on the north side of the canal. After closure of the canal a cottage had been built on the site, demolished circa 1960s.
