Full Description
A watching brief was carried out by Aberdeen City Council Archaeological Unit in September 2005 on a number of trial pits. Monitoring in 1981 of a sewer trench in this area suggested that the area had been levelled , and this was confirmed by these trial pits. It appears that any archaeological deposits in the northern portion of the development area had been destroyed or scarped in the 19th and 20th centuries. A watching brief was carried by Aberdeen City Council Archaeological Unit in June 2008 at the Timmer Mart car park during excavation of inspection and infiltration pits to establish the depths of wall foundations. One of the pits uncovered 19th century wall foundations but no other archaeological features were found. A trial trenching evaluation by MAS in April 2009 found no archaeological features or artefacts, although no excavation was possible to the south of the site in Justice Lane. Observation of contractors service trenches found no archaeological deposits evident at the Justice Street access to the site.
