Full Description
Site of house of late 18th century date, redesigned and extended by J Russell Mackenzie circa 1875. lodge and remains of garden grounds. The house is depicted on the OS 1st and 2nd edition maps set within garden grounds, with a lodge at the entrance to the northeast. On the mid 20th century OS map it is annotated as Kepplestone Nursing Home. The house is a 2-storey gabled house adjoining a reworked 18th century farmhouse, with a small central courtyard, and substantial 20th century additions and alterations. Harled and dry-dashed. Now known as Kepplestone Mansion. During the First World War the Aberdeen children's hospital was evacuated to Kepplestone House. Standing building survey was carried out by Cameron Archaeology in July 2016. The house may have started as a cottage on Viewfield Road but was substantially enlarged and modernised by Alexander Macdonald around 1875 to house his art collection. The building was extended several times in the 20th century, although some of these extensions have since been removed. See also NJ90NW2230 - lodge.
