Full Description

Site of a railway station, opened in 1893 after several years negotiation with the Town Council, and closed to regular passenger traffic in 1937. I It was located within sight of the Joint Station (NJ90NW0073), but was more convenient for the George St, Rosemount and Woolmanhill areas. Schoolhill Station was a granite building with entrances from both Schoolhill and Denburn. The station was also used as a bus terminus for the Great North of Scotland Railway bus service. It was a 2-platform through station. The offices on the up platform were in a 3-storey, 2 by 3 bay rustic ashlar building with a 2-storey wing entered from the viaduct at second floor level. On 28th January 1937 it was announced in the Press and Journal that after April 1937 the suburban railway was to end. Schoolhill was one of the fourteen stations closed as a result of rivalry from bus services and waning popularity of the train service. This marked the end of a chapter in transportation history for Aberdeen. The station restaurant survived until the 1970s, and the station was demolished in 1973.
